The original World Association of Press Councils was established by six Press Councils, including Turkish Press Council, on 23 October 1992 in New Delhi, India.

The basic principle of WAPC is to participate in the development of the idea of “freedom of expression and of responsibility in the international media”, to share the experiences already acquired in this field, and to promote co-operation among the Press Councils and similar bodies that have been established with the aim of self regulation.

Organization of News Ombudsmen:

An ombudsman is someone who handles complaints and attempts to find mutually satisfactory solutions. Ombudsmen can be found in government, corporations, hospitals, universities and other institutions. The first ombudsman was appointed in 1809 in Sweden to handle citizens’ complaints about the government. The word is pronounced “om-BUDS-man” and is Scandinavian in origin.

“Jeff Gardner and friends periodically comment on a range of issues including the American press and its relationship with American politics, public diplomacy, international affairs and the absurdities that come to us in the press. There is no intention to be comprehensive; but rather to select issues as they come along and look at how the press reports them and analyzes them.” from About of the Press and Politics

Disconnected: Politics, the Press and the Public

“Dramatic changes in the news media over the last decade have created a new kind of campaign coverage. Traditional news sources like daily newspapers and network news programs now compete for scoops with 24-hour cable channels, and rumors turn into news as fast as they surface on the Internet. Politicians increasingly rely on image consultants and pollsters to shape their message and insulate them from an onslaught of journalists looking for an exclusive story. With voter turnout in national elections at an all-time low, is campaign media coverage part of the problem or just a mirror for America’s new political realities? DISCONNECTED: Politics, the Press and the Public, peels back the headlines to look at the process driving campaign coverage and the struggle facing politicians and the news media to find new standards.” from about of the site.

The advantages of online experimentation are clear in light of the explosion in the number of households with access to the Internet. Moreover, issues of sampling bias — previously endemic to experiments — can be overcome through the greater “reach” of online experiments and by the application of standard probability sampling techniques to the recruitment of online experimental participants. These developments significantly alleviate concerns over the generalizability of experimental research and as a result, experiments now represent a dominant methodology for political communication researchers.” from About of the site.
