Notes on Taiwan Press

October 29, 2009

Raucous and rampant media after the lifting of martial law in 1987 and the the scrapping of the last press law (Publication Law) in 1999?

“No limits on foreign ownership in the media, no censorship of any form, …. but curtailed by the highly politicized ownership structure of much of the media and by the business interests of media owners themselves” (Yang & Engbarth,2000).

Media under or out of control?

Political Talk Shows, shoddy journalism? too many reporters chasing for too few stories, quick and dirty exclusive reports, more soft news, paid reports? mixed use of languages in media reports

national security vs. freedom of the press, level of media independence from commercial sponsors
